When homes in South Cave were built, and what that means for the frames

Around South Cave centre, the Valuation Office Agency counts 2,600 properties: 16% built before 1919, 4% between the wars, 29% from 1945 to 1972, 35% from 1973 to 1999 and 14% since 2000. The standout figure is the 35% (about 910 properties) built from 1973 to 1999, well above the 19% average. uPVC became the normal window for new houses during the 1980s and 1990s, so many of those 910 homes still have their first frames. Many of those 1,270 homes have frames that have only ever been white, and a respray changes that for far less than replacement windows.

Types of home in South Cave, and a worked price

Of the 2,346 households counted around South Cave centre in the 2021 Census, 56% live in detached houses, 33% in semi-detached, 10% in terraced houses and 1% in flats.
