About Kitchen Refinishing

What is kitchen refinishing?+

Kitchen refinishing (also called kitchen respraying or cabinet painting) is the process of professionally spray-painting your existing kitchen cabinets, doors, and drawer fronts with a factory-quality finish. Rather than replacing your kitchen, we transform the colour and appearance of your existing units — at a fraction of the cost.

How long does a kitchen refinishing project take?+

Most kitchen refinishing projects take 3–5 working days, depending on the size of your kitchen and the scope of work. We remove all doors and drawer fronts, prepare and prime all surfaces, spray multiple coats, and reassemble everything. You will have full access to your kitchen throughout the process. We will give you an exact timeline at your free consultation.

Is kitchen refinishing worth it?+

If your kitchen layout works, your carcasses are structurally sound, and the only problem is the colour or finish — then yes, refinishing is almost always the smarter investment. You save thousands compared to a full replacement, have far less disruption, and get a result that looks factory-new. Our 252 five-star Google reviews reflect hundreds of Yorkshire homeowners who chose refinishing over replacement.

Can all kitchens be refinished?+

Most kitchens can be refinished, but not all. We will always give you an honest assessment at the free consultation. Refinishing works well on MDF, solid wood, and most painted or stained cabinet fronts. Surfaces that are warped, water-damaged, delaminating, or in very poor structural condition may not be suitable. We would rather tell you upfront than deliver a finish that won't last.

How is professional refinishing different from painting it myself?+

Several key differences. First, application: we use professional HVLP spray equipment that delivers a perfectly smooth, factory-grade finish. Brush and roller marks are unavoidable with DIY methods. Second, materials: we use specialist hardwearing paints formulated for kitchen surfaces — not emulsion or standard gloss. Third, preparation: proper degreasing, sanding, and priming is time-consuming and critical. Skip any step and the paint fails within months. Fourth, we back our work with a written 5–10 year guarantee.

Cost and Finance

How much does kitchen refinishing cost?+

Professional kitchen refinishing typically starts from around £1,500 for a smaller kitchen, rising to £3,000–£5,000+ for larger kitchens with more cabinet doors and drawer fronts. The exact cost depends on the number of doors, the complexity of the job, and whether you want new handles fitted. Every quote is free, fixed-price, and provided in writing following your home consultation.

How much does kitchen refinishing cost compared to a full replacement?+

A full kitchen replacement in Yorkshire typically costs £10,000–£30,000 or more, including units, worktops, plumbing, electrics, and fitting. Kitchen refinishing typically costs 70–80% less and takes 3–5 days rather than 2–6 weeks. For a kitchen where the layout and structure are fine, refinishing delivers a comparable transformation at a fraction of the price.

Do you offer finance?+

Yes. We offer 0% interest-free finance for 6 or 12 months through Kanda Finance. This allows you to spread the cost of your kitchen transformation with no additional charges. Subject to status and credit approval. Finance details will be provided at your free consultation.

Is a deposit required?+

Yes. A 50% deposit is required upon acceptance of your written quotation in order to schedule your project and order materials. The remaining 50% is due on the final day of the job, once you have inspected the completed work.

Colours and Finishes

Can you match any colour?+

Yes. We have access to over 175,000 colours, including the full RAL Classic and RAL Design ranges, Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Dulux Trade, and custom tinted shades. Our colour matching service uses spectrophotometer technology to create an exact match from a physical sample, an existing surface, or a fabric or tile swatch. We will always show you physical samples before committing to a colour.

What finishes are available?+

We can apply matt, satin, and gloss finishes. Satin is the most popular choice for kitchens — it is practical, easy to wipe clean, and works in both traditional and modern settings. Matt gives a contemporary, sophisticated look but shows fingerprints more readily. Full gloss creates a high-impact reflective surface and is best with lighter colours. We will advise on the best finish for your kitchen and usage during the consultation.

Can I change colour later if I want a different look?+

Yes. Previously refinished surfaces can be refinished again in a new colour in the future. If you decide to change the look after a few years, get in touch and we can discuss your options.

Guarantees and Quality

What guarantee do you offer?+

We offer a 5-year written guarantee on kitchen unit refinishing, covering paint adhesion and colour stability. We offer a 10-year written guarantee on uPVC spray painting using Kolorbond-certified products. Both guarantees are provided in writing upon completion of your project — not just a verbal promise.

What does the guarantee cover?+

The guarantee covers peeling, flaking, or significant colour fade caused by defects in our materials or workmanship. It does not cover damage from physical impact, use of abrasive cleaners, normal wear on high-use areas, or modification of surfaces after completion. If a valid claim arises within the guarantee period, we will inspect and carry out remedial work at no charge.

Are you insured?+

Yes. ColourHaus Decorating Limited holds full public liability insurance. Details are available on request.

Are you Kolorbond certified?+

Yes. We are certified applicators for Kolorbond, the market-leading coating system for uPVC. This certification means we are trained and approved to use Kolorbond products and processes, and our uPVC work is backed by the manufacturer's 10-year guarantee.

Booking and Process

How do I get a quote?+

Book a free home consultation through our website or by calling us. We will visit your home to assess your kitchen, discuss colour options and finishes, and provide a written, fixed-price quote within 48 hours of the visit. There is no obligation to proceed.

How far in advance do I need to book?+

We are typically booked 3–6 weeks in advance, though this varies by season. Spring and summer tend to be busier. We recommend getting in touch as early as possible to secure your preferred dates.

Will I have access to my kitchen while the work is being done?+

Yes. We work with the doors and drawer fronts removed, which means the kitchen carcasses, shelves, and worktops remain accessible throughout. Most families manage normal kitchen use during the refinishing process. We will protect all surfaces and work as cleanly as possible.

When can I start using my kitchen after refinishing?+

We recommend very light use in the first 24 hours (gentle closing of cupboards, no heavy contact). After 48 hours, normal use is fine. Full hardening of the paint takes approximately 7 days, so we advise avoiding harsh cleaning products or heavy abrasion during that initial period. We will provide full aftercare instructions on completion.

What areas do you cover?+

We are based in Leeds and cover the whole of Yorkshire, including York, Harrogate, Wakefield, Bradford, Huddersfield, Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster, Pontefract, Wetherby, and Knaresborough, as well as surrounding towns and villages.

There is no travel charge for the free consultation. For the refinishing work itself, any travel supplement will be clearly stated in your written quote before you commit.
